Virtualization Practice Manager, Cloud Operations 702 216 3573
As Virtualization Practice Manager for Zumasys, Joe works relentlessly to optimize the efficiency and reliability of Zumasys’s cloud infrastructure for the 11,000 users that depend on our hosted customer environments. It’s no small task, but Joe is exceedingly qualified to handle it.
Joe originally started pursuing a degree in business but quickly switched to follow his passion in technology. To Joe, technology was more than just a fun hobby—it was changing the world. After graduating with a B.S. in Computer Science from Westwood College of Technology in Denver, Colorado, Joe moved back to his home state of California. There he went to work in the technology department of Fang Clothing, a fashion company, before moving on to GoApply.com, a dot com selling mortgage leads generated online.
Joe’s focus on virtualization started early. In 2001 he installed VMware Workstation after reading an article discussing the idea of running multiple “machines” on one PC. From then on he tinkered with the technology, and in 2005 he installed an ESX 2.5 hypervisor on the down low at GoApply.com. It was a single server running development servers, and only one other person even knew that it existed. When GoApply.com was acquired by a much larger company in 2006, Joe’s career grew, and he was put in charge of virtualization for the company’s Real Estate Division. From that point on, virtualization became his passion and primary focus. The company was acquired again, this time by Lender Processing Services (LPS), which handled the backend processing for 99 of the top 100 banks. (Don’t ask what the 1 bank was—he still doesn’t know!)
Joe was recruited by Zumasys in September 2012. At the time, he had received several calls from recruiters, and he had sent each one straight to voicemail. The one time he picked up by accident, it was an offer to interview for Zumasys. Fate was calling.
Between work and his family, Joe is a busy guy. Joe is married to the greatest woman that he’s ever known, and together they have two small kids: a two-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
How does what you do benefit customers? I ensure that our cloud infrastructure runs as efficiently and reliably as possible, which allows our hosted customers’ environments to do the same.
