VERIZON WIRELESS, CITRIX AND ZUMASYS COMPLETE FIRST ROLLOUT OF CITRIX ACCESS INFRASTRUCTURE OVER VERIZON WIRELESS' BROADBAND ACCESS

Now, With High-speed Wireless Access to Applications, Continental Laboratory Products Can Increase Sales Force Productivity and Improve Customer Response

ATLANTA - Today at CTIA Wireless 2004, Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless provider, Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, and Zumasys, Inc., a national solutions integrator, announced that Continental Laboratory Products (CLP) is the first customer to roll out a mobile access solution combining Citrix® MetaFrame® Presentation Server and Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess high-speed wireless service. Currently available in San Diego and Washington D.C., Verizon Wireless plans to make BroadbandAccess service available throughout additional portions of its network beginning later this year.

Based on third-generation (3G), wide-area CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO technology, BroadbandAccess allows customers to access information when they are out of the office at speeds that are faster than those offered via any other commercially available wide-area wireless data service in the United States. With data transmission bursts up to 2 Megabits per second (Mbps), BroadbandAccess customers can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment (for example, a small PowerPoint presentation or a large PDF file), or receive three digital pictures (each 400 x 600 pixels) in less than 30 seconds, which is three to four times faster than using EDGE service, and as much as 10 times faster than on a competitor's GPRS network. Customers can also use this high-speed data service to view rich graphic content, video and more.

San Diego-based CLP, a leading manufacturer and marketer of laboratory tools for biological molecular research, sells directly to university medical centers, biotechnology researchers and medical device manufacturers. Since competitors sell through large distributors, the productivity of CLP's field representatives is a competitive advantage. Hence, it was a strategic business goal for CLP to enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of its direct sales force in customer interactions by giving them on-demand wireless access from the field to corporate information and Web content.

Previously, CLP's direct sales team was forced to relay information to one another and back to the home office via fax, phone or mail, undermining timely data analysis and slowing lead generation.

"Now, we're not burdened by the same lag time and we've seen more than 70 percent field compliance with lead follow-up," said Scott Cranford, vice president of sales for Continental Laboratory Products. "The speed of the BroadbandAccess service enables our sales reps to quickly respond to opportunities in the field. That kind of fast response wouldn't be possible without wireless access to information."

The Mobile Solution

Zumasys provided an integrated mobile solution for CLP, including 2.5-lb. Panasonic Toughbooks, MetaFrame Presentation Server and the PC5220 manufactured by Sierra Wireless, which provides CLP's San Diego and Washington D.C. sales representatives secure access to applications via Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service. The solution also included application testing along with a variety of implementation services from Zumasys.

MetaFrame Presentation Server, the foundation of the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite, is the world's most widely deployed presentation server for centrally managing heterogeneous applications and delivering functionality to workers, wherever they may be. By using MetaFrame Presentation Server, CLP benefits from the enhanced performance of applications that are accessed wirelessly since the traditional requirements of transferring entire applications over a network are eliminated. Since application processing takes place on a central server, only keystrokes, mouse clicks and screen captures are securely transferred between the Panasonic Toughbook and the server.

Complementing the performance benefits of MetaFrame Presentation Server is Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service, the fastest commercially available wide-area wireless data service in the United States today, which is ideal for downloading large files.

"By pairing our technology with Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server, our business customers can easily access wireless high-bandwidth applications outside of the office, which helps them increase productivity, respond more quickly to their customers and close sales," said Jim Straight, vice president of wireless Internet and multimedia services for Verizon Wireless.

CDMA2000 1xEV-DO is a data-optimized evolution of CDMA2000, a digital wireless technology commercially developed by QUALCOMM. As wireless services become richer and more complex in content, achieving high transmission rates at lower costs will deliver increasing business value.

"The availability of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks and solutions marks an exciting time for mobile workers and business executives," said Jan Dehesh, vice president of enterprise market development for QUALCOMM. "The combination of high-speed CDMA2000 1xEV-DO data networks and mobile solutions, such as Citrix access infrastructure, will enable companies to provide their users with access to corporate enterprise applications and the Internet at broadband-like speeds."

Customer Benefits

This solution gives CLP's sales representatives wireless access to Microsoft Exchange for email, as well as to the company's customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. As a result, sales representatives can check and update customer data or inventory levels from the field, improving productivity and accelerating customer response time.

CLP's entire lead-generation and customer-transaction process has improved based on the capabilities of Citrix technology and the speed of Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service. For example, access to price quotes from the road has raised sales force compliance with standardized quotes from just five percent up to 90 percent. CLP has also seen improvements in the response to prospects at trade shows - from days to a matter of hours - allowing customer leads to be pursued more quickly and completely. In addition, by centralizing applications and information, MetaFrame Presentation Server enables field representatives to input sales quotes directly into the CRM system so that data can be managed and analyzed. This up-to-date information helps CLP ensure that 85 percent of customer orders ship within 48 hours, while helping management track schedules and communicate delivery times to customers.

"By equipping our sales force with the right tools, they can focus their efforts on increasing revenue and seeing more clients per day without being slowed by traditional forms of communication," said Cranford. "With Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server, our sales team can access the same information from the field as they would in the office, in real time, making them more productive, consultative and responsive to the needs of the customer. That gives us a competitive edge."
