IBM Databases

IBM has become the worldwide leader in database management system software, according to a report released today by Gartner Dataquest. With 34.6 percent market share, IBM became the leading vendor in new license revenue, surpassing the competition. IBM also continued its momentum in the Unix and Windows markets, experiencing double digit growth. In the Unix database market, IBM's business increased 15.4 percent. In Windows, it was up 15.8 percent. Recently, IBM announced its 20th consecutive quarter of growth for its database software business. In the first quarter of 2002, IBM's data management business increased 28 percent and its DB2 Data Management Software increased 12 percent. IBM's Unidata database provides intuitive, nested extensions to the traditional "first normal form" relational model and IBM's UniVerse is the ideal database for client/server and Web-based application development because of its low administrative maintenance, broad hardware platform support, and industry standard interfaces.
