Reduce your nightly backup times by 75% with Unitrends Disk-to-Disk Backup - "My 4GB of Universe data that once took 3 hours to backup… now takes only 12 minutes."

When The Momentum Group wanted to improve the speed of their backups they turned to Zumasys and Unitrends, a leader in disk-to-disk backup and bare metal restore solutions for Linux, Windows and Unix. Momentum's IT Director John Hester installed a DPU2000 and the performance gains were as follows:

  • The nightly backup of 4GB of Universe data that once took 3 hours across a T1 now takes 12 minutes.
  • The built-in compression of the DPU reduces the 4GB of Universe data to 1.5GB
  • With the increase speeds, Momentum is able to backup the Universe database twice a day now - both before and after nightly batch processing.
  • Restores can be done "without getting up from my desk."
  • Execute multiple backup jobs at one time, and restores at same time backup jobs are running
  • Bare Metal Support – Unitrends is the inventor of Bare Metal Backup and Restore.  Bare Metal Restore allows you to recover a crashed server in Minutes (support for Windows, Novell, Linux, Unix, Solaris, Free BSD, etc…)
  • Disaster Recovery – We can synchronize backups over a WAN link to an offsite Data Protection Vault (DPV).  This allows you to have automatic lights out Data Protection and Disaster Recovery or you can take disk drives offsite in a protective carrying case.
  • MS Exchange Restore Utility that will recover at the message level and mailbox level

Another key benefit comes from the use of the LTO2 autoloader provided by Zumasys, which works in conjunction with the Unitrends appliance. According to John Hester, "Due to the high capacity of the tapes (200GB uncompressed), we can fit over 2 months of twice-a-day Universe backups on a single tape. This allows me to schedule 1 tape backup per month to the LTO autoloader and know that any data I may need for a specific date will be backed up on at least 2 separate tapes (the DPU purges the oldest backup automatically when the disk partition gets full). We no longer need to do any special archive backups since we have the capacity to keep everything indefinitely. Possibly the biggest benefit of the total solution is that after the initial setup, it's all hands-off. We have to load new tapes into the autoloader every 6 months and that's it. There's no danger of missing a backup because someone forgot to load the tape, or left it write protected."

Entry level appliances start at $3,789 for 250GB. Contact your Zumasys sales rep at 800-841-3879 today for more information.

AirCard 580 is PC Magazine's Editors' Choice with 4 out of 5 Stars – Get Yours Today from Zumasys

The Sierra Wireless AirCard 580 ($269.99 list; $79.99/month for service) delivers a high-speed wireless Internet connection on Verizon's BroadbandAccess network (which is based on EV-DO) in 32 metro areas, using sleek, elegant software. It's our current best choice for mobile computing. EV-DO (Evolution Data Only) is the most compelling cellular technology we've seen in ages. This network is fast—way fast. In tests in New York City, northern Virginia, and Las Vegas, we got a solid average speed of 700 Kbps, with highs up to 1.2 Mbps. That's more than double the speed of Cingular's competing UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Service) network—which is in only six cities—and it's four times the speed of Cingular's nationwide EDGE network. Moreover, EV-DO just feels fast. Latency tests reflected the network's speed: three times better than EDGE, but still three times slower than our in-house wired network.

The Sierra Wireless 580 uses the same hardware as the Verizon Wireless PC 5220 card, but we prefer the Sierra's software. Sierra's AirCard watcher is an elegant little dashboard that lets you connect, gives you the stats you need, and stays out of your way. The Sierra card also has a two-year warranty; Verizon's is one year. If you travel primarily to Verizon's 32 EV-DO cities, BroadbandAccess will totally transform the way you work. Zumasys Case Study – Learn how Valor Eliminated $30,000/year in Wi-Fi and Dialup connections

When Valor Computerized Systems was looking for ways to improve the productivity levels of its mobile workforce, the provider of printer circuit board (PCB) software turned to Zumasys, a leading provider of wireless mobility solutions for small-to-medium businesses. Zumasys helped Valor architect a complete solution that allowed its 35 salespeople to access their corporate network over PPTP using Sprint AirCards and Check Point's secure client. As a result, sales rep visits to customer sites increased by 20% and Valor eliminated more than $30,000/year in Wi-Fi and dial up connections. Valor was one of three Zumasys customers that became finalists for the exclusive 2004 QUALCOMM A-List Awards. To learn more, visit the attached case study.
