Today, Zumasys paid tribute to the lives of Luke Bucklin and Jay Otto with the dedication of the Nerdery West in Irvine, CA. Both Luke and Jay were important members of the Zumasys family and helped pave the way to where Zumasys is today.
Luke Bucklin was the former Director of Sales at Zumasys and went on to form Sierra Bravo with partners Mike Derheim and Mike Schmidt. Luke was very instrumental in the early development of Zumasys and a wizard when it came to custom software solutions. Hundreds of Zumasys customers still utilize Sierra Bravo’s innovative solutions for web integration, reporting, dashboards and much more. Luke was passionate about flying, his family and technology. He passed away on October 25th in a tragic plane accident outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Jay Otto was Zumasys’ first engineer and a capable professional who worked tirelessly to serve the technical needs of our customers. Jay had many passions and hobbies in life including Ski Patrol, working a side job at Disneyland and his family. Jay fought a long, difficult battle with skin cancer, which eventually ended his life early at the age of 37.
Today’s dedication was attended by over 50 colleagues, friends and family members, including Luke’s wife, Ginger; as well as business partners, Mike Derheim and Mike Schmidt. Also in attendance were Jay’s mother and sister, Jim and Christine Otto; Barbara Otto-Cherrison, her three children and their son, Jay Jr. The dedication was a celebration of Luke and Jay’s lives and the legacy they left behind.
