IRVINE, CALIFORNIA—October 28, 2014 – Zumasys, a leading provider of cloud computing and infrastructure solutions to small and medium-sized businesses, announced today that Pacific International Marketing (PIM), an industry-leading grower, packer, and shipper of fresh fruits and vegetables, has implemented a FlexPod converged infrastructure solution.
In 2008, PIM virtualized its infrastructure using a NetApp FAS3140 storage system and VMware® virtualization technology. The company also improved data protection, building a secondary site for replication and disaster recovery.
In 2013, PIM again refreshed its technology, working with Zumasys to swap out its NetApp FAS systems with a FlexPod converged infrastructure solution, which brings together Cisco UCS blade servers, a NetApp FAS3220 storage cluster, and Cisco Nexus switches into a single, scalable unit. PIM now has two FlexPods with flash-enabled FAS shelves and VMware Site Recovery Manager for failover.
“Technology refresh happens. This time a converged infrastructure made a lot of sense because it consolidated the servers, the switches, and the storage into one unit. The equipment has been pre-validated in a lab, so you know that it’s all going to work perfectly together,” says Bryan Searcy, Director of Information Technology for Pacific International Marketing.
With one of the largest implementations of Famous Software in the country, PIM selected Zumasys because of its deep expertise in Famous Software and virtualization technology. “Virtualizing Famous was one of my big driving points,” says Searcy. “Zumasys was perfect because they had a partner relationship with Famous and experience virtualizing Famous servers. I had total confidence that it would work.”
Today, PIM’s FlexPod based private cloud has helped the company’s two-man IT department to manage booming data growth and enable critical business initiatives while lowering costs and improving performance. Support for PIM’s critical Famous accounting system has helped it streamline IT operations and connect users to real-time data, whether they’re in the office or in the field.
PIM’s savvy use of technology has helped it grow into one of the largest shippers of produce in California. And with help from Zumasys, it will continue to evolve its infrastructure to outpace its competition. “What’s cool about Zumasys is that I consider them to be my primary partner,” says Searcy. “We have developed such synergy with everyone at Zumasys—from their management team to the employees that come on site to work with us. I have peace of mind knowing that they’re just a phone call away.”
